Risk and Readiness Lab
(Course & Toolkit)
Â
A structured approach to assessing whether you’re ready to make your next move
Overview
The Risk and Readiness Lab is designed to help you step back and objectively assess your current position before making any major career or business decision.
Rather than relying on emotion, urgency, or external pressure, this course provides a structured way to evaluate:
- Your current level of risk exposure
- Your financial and professional readiness
- Your capability to operate outside your current role
- Your realistic options moving forward
By the end of this course, you will have a clear position and a defined pathway based on your own circumstances.
Module 1: The Risk Shift
Understand what actually changes when you go solo
Going solo isn’t just about freedom; it’s about responsibility.
In this module, you’ll understand how risk moves from the organisation to you, and how your work becomes more visible, more direct, and more outcome-driven.
You’ll learn how to operate in an environment where stability is no longer provided; it’s created.
Topics:
- 1.1 Contracting Is a Risk Reallocation
- 1.2 The Visibility Multiplier
Focus:
- How risk is reallocated in contracting
- Why visibility and performance expectations increase
- How to build a reputation based on outcomes, not effort
Module 2: Financial Runway & Stability
Create the financial foundation that supports your move
Financial pressure is one of the biggest reasons solo moves fail, not because the work isn’t there, but because the timing is wrong.
In this module, you’ll gain clarity on your financial position and understand how runway creates space to make better, not reactive, decisions.
Topics:
- 2.1 The 3 to 6 Month Rule
- 2.2 Cost Structure & Tax Reality
Focus:
- The 3–6 month runway principle
- Understanding your true cost structure
- Separating revenue from real income
Module 3: Market Reality & Demand
Validate whether the market will actually pay for your work
Being good at what you do isn’t enough — the market has to recognise and value it.
This module helps you step outside your internal role and assess your position objectively, including how demand works and how different contracting pathways affect your exposure and control.
Topics:
- 3.1 Are You Actually In Demand?
- 3.2 Agency vs Direct Contracting
Focus:
- The difference between capability and demand
- How to demonstrate and articulate value
- Agency vs direct contracting pathways
Module 4: Behavioural & Psychological Readiness
Shift how you operate, not just where you work
The biggest challenge in going solo isn’t technical, it’s behavioural.
This module focuses on how you think, decide, and operate when structure is removed. It also addresses the realities of independence, including isolation and decision load.
Topics:
- 4.1 Employee Mode vs Contractor Mode
- 4.2 Isolation, Admin & Decision Fatigue
Focus:
- Moving from employee mode to contractor mode
- Operating with ownership and initiative
- Managing isolation, pressure, and decision fatigue
Module 5: The Decision Framework
Make the right move at the right time, and act on it
The goal isn’t to push you into going solo.
The goal is to ensure that when you move, it’s deliberate, structured, and aligned to your readiness.
In this module, you’ll define your position and translate it into a clear 90-day plan that prioritises stability and forward momentum.
Topics:
- 5.1 Three Possible Decisions (Stay, Prepare, Leave)
- 5.2 90-Day Stabilisation Plan
Focus:
- The three valid paths: Move, Prepare, or Stay
- Making decisions based on readiness, not urgency
- Â practical 90-day action plan
Tools and Resources Included
- Risk and Readiness Self-Assessment Tool
- Participants' Handbook
- Reflection for each module
